A new Uncharted poster shows just how dangerous Nathan Drake’s plane stunt is in the long-awaited Tom Holland-starring video game adaptation. Development on a film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed action-adventure franchise has languished in development hell for over a decade, having first gotten underway in 2008, with David O. Russell becoming the first director to sign on in 2010. Uncharted would subsequently see a revolving door of writers, directors and stars, including Dan Trachtenberg, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy and Travis Knight as well as Nathan Fillion, Chris Pratt and Mark Wahlberg all being set or rumored to star as Drake at various points.

Uncharted would finally gain steam in early 2020 when Venom director Ruben Fleischer signed on to helm with Tom Holland having joined as Nathan Drake back in 2017 and Wahlberg having been confirmed to return in 2019, this time in the role of Drake’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The film will serve as an origin story for its central adventurer and Sully as they set off in search of a legendary treasure before a ruthless fortune hunter can get their hands on it. The journey will also put Drake and Sully onto a trail of clues that could lead the young adventurer to his long-lost brother Sam.

Audiences have been captivated by the Uncharted plane stunt since it was revealed in the movie’s first trailer, with those familiar with Naughty Dog’s games immediately recognizing it from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Holland has worked to build a lot of anticipation for the game moment coming to life on screen, having recently discussed the stunt in a BTS video for the film in which he called it the hardest action sequence he’s ever done in his career. Though some were subsequently mixed on their response, as the video showed him largely in front of a blue screen, many are still eager to see the Spider-Man star utilize his skills to bring Drake to life on the big screen.

Viewer anticipation for Uncharted is building as the film nears its theatrical release date, namely those who have been hungry to see the Naughty Dog games come to life on screen. With the movie adaptation having taken over a decade to get off the ground, Holland riding the critical and commercial success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and no competition at the film’s box office opening weekend, it will be interesting to see if audiences deem the wait to have been worth it. Only time will tell when Uncharted hits theaters on February 18.
