After a long wait, Star Trek: Picard season 2 will finally premiere in March 2022 on Paramount+. Season 1 of the Patrick Stewart-led sequel series to Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced new characters and saw appearances from TNG favorites like Data (Brent Spiner), Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis). Originally scheduled to begin shooting in June 2020, Star Trek: Picard season 2’s production was delayed a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is Star Trek: Picard was renewed for seasons 2 and 3, which have been produced back-to-back.
Overseen by showrunner Michael Chabon, Star Trek: Picard season 1 told a complex story about the role of artificial lifeforms in the United Federation of Planets. The series’ moral quandary and central mysteries revolved around twins Dahj and Soji (Isa Briones), the synthetic daughters of the late Commander Data. The existence of Soji and the other androids built after Data’s death in Star Trek: Nemesis was threatened by an evil cabal of Romulans, who believed the synthetics, left unchecked, would destroy the galaxy. Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Picard dealt with a fatal illness and launched his latest adventure with a new crew as a way to find purpose and right some old wrongs in his twilight years.
However, Star Trek: Picard season 2 will shift its narrative into an alternate reality/time travel story about a fascist United Federation of Planets, thanks to a new timeline created by Q (John de Lancie). In his return to the Star Trek universe, Q puts Picard and humanity on trial once again. Star Trek: Picard season 2 promises a fascinating new look at “the road not taken,” and here’s everything we know about what’s next for Jean-Luc and his motley crew aboard La Sirena.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 is obviously a huge part of Star Trek on Paramount+’s plan to stream new episodes of all five of its current Star Trek series throughout 2022.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Story Details
With new showrunner Terry Matalas at the helm, Star Trek: Picard season 2 will see Q return to place Jean-Luc and humanity back on trial. As indicated by Star Trek: Picard season 2’s trailers, Q changes the timeline so that the Federation has become an authoritarian regime while Picard and his allies are shocked with changes they personally undergo. To set the timeline right, Picard and his friends aboard La Sirena must time travel to the past. This brings Jean-Luc and his crew into 2024 Los Angeles, which makes the intergalactic heroes fish out of water during Earth’s pre-warp era. How the Borg Queen, Guinan, Brent Spiner’s new Soong character, fit into it all, and how Jean-Luc saves the universe once again will be revealed in Star Trek: Picard season 2.
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 streams Thursdays starting March 3, 2022, on Paramount+.
