A brand new batch of photos from the set of Marvel’s Secret Invasion reveals Samuel L. Jackson’s return as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

New set images from Marvel’s Secret Invasion show Nick Fury’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s sporting a new look. After establishing its small screen pocket of the MCU via Disney+, Marvel Studios isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon with a string of new shows slated for the platform. One of the upcoming series is Secret Invasion, which will see Samuel L. Jackon’s Fury headlining the project alongside Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos the Skrull.

Officially announced at Disney Investor Day 2020, Secret Invasion was rumored to be a Nick Fury-centric narrative. But, while the character will be front and center of its story, viewers can expect it to be more expansive as it may potentially lay the groundwork for a Secret Wars crossover event. The show has assembled an impressive ensemble including Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, and Emilia Clarke — all in yet-t0-be disclosed roles. Meanwhile, Colbie Smulders has also been confirmed to reprise her role as Maria Hill in Secret Invasion. Filming has finally begun in Leeds, Scotland, with various set images offering fans their first look at its cast.

Courtesy of Alan Milner on Twitter comes a batch of photos from Secret Invasion‘s set featuring Jackson as Fury. In the images, the character is in his civilian clothes and is looking noticeably older, with a much bushier beard compared to his official character reveal during Disney Day 2021. Images of Hill meeting Clarke’s currently unnamed character have already made the rounds online and it appears as if they’re also shooting in the same location where Fury’s snaps were taken. Considering the lack of context to these photos, it’s difficult to gauge what’s exactly happening or how it fits into the show’s overall narrative. That being said, it seems to reveal that Fury will make his way back to Earth after spending some time in space, working on a mysterious project with the Skrulls, as seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home. This fits with the ending of WandaVision, where he sent a Skrull operative to arrange a meeting with grown-up Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris).

Considering Fury’s significantly older look, it’s curious when exactly Secret Invasion lands on the MCU’s timeline. The show might premiere in late 2022 or early 2023, but that doesn’t dictate when it’s set in terms of the franchise’s storytelling pace. Plus, there’s also the possibility that this version of the character could simply be a Skrull in disguise, similar to what happened in Spider-Man: Far From Home. If that’s the case, it’s possible that the real Fury is handling other matters in the same space station he was last spotted in. But chances are that he will eventually have to return to Earth to deal with whatever new crisis he and his team are monitoring.
