On December 8th, 1980, Mark David Chapman went up to John Lennon in New York City and, instead of asking for his autograph as expected, shot him dead with a .38 snub-nosed pistol. Over time, and with the increasing knowledge that John Lennon was not a good person, it became a meme to mock, or even support, his death. One of the first memes to outright support Mark David Chapman over John Lennon was a Cyberbully meme template that had Mark David Chapman’s mugshot used as an avatar in a chatroom, writing a message to bully John Lennon. The meme’s original source was lost, but it was posted to KnowYourMeme on October 25th, 2011, by the user VintageVCR (shown below).
