Festivus Seinfeld Episode
Let us explain about this silly joke holiday, all while sharing funny Festivus memes, quotes and facts.
Wondering what Seinfeld episode is about Festivus? Tune into the 166th episode of Seinfeld, titled “The Strike.”
“The Strike” or also known as the Seinfeld Festivus episode, originally aired on December 18, 1997. That’s right, Festivus holiday is 24 years old in 2021!

This Festivus meme says it well. The pole, the feast, the airing of grievances and the feats of strength. Confused? Keep reading.

One of the central elements of the Festivus holiday and celebration is the aluminum pole which is named a Festivus pole.
Why yes, this holiday pole does look like something you would find in a uhm, after hours men’s club – but no, it’s not that.
The Festivus pole is to Festivus as the Christmas Tree is to Christmas. Want to buy a pole? According to Frank Costanza, the aluminum pole will need to have a very high strength-to-weight ratio.
Want to buy a Festivus pole on Amazon? Well one of these uhm dancing poles could serve the duty.
Don’t decorate your Festivus pole. Decorations are distracting, so leave it plain and let people admire it’s aluminum nothingness.
Airing of Grievances
The highlight of the Festivus holiday comes during dinner when before eating, you air your grievances. This allows you the opportunity to tell others how they have disappointed you in the past year.
Celebrate a modern day Festivus and air your grievances on social media, but for the love just do it on December 23. Some people seem to think EVERYDAY is Festivus on social media. Don’t take away the magic of this joke holiday. Save your grievances just for December 23rd please.
What to Eat – Festivus Dinner
So now that you have either told the people in your life how much they have disappointed you, or you have aired your grievances online – now to eat the Festivus dinner.
Yes, there is even a meal for this fake holiday. In the Seinfeld episode, The Strike – a Festivus dinner consisted of meatloaf on a bed of lettuce. Totally sounds appetizing, right? (that’s a nope from me.)
At Christmas, we say Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays. For Festivus, it’s Happy Festivus.
The holiday’s tagline is “A Festivus for the rest of us” which is one of the many Festivus quotes that infamous Seinfeld episode brought us. Here are more Festivus quotes to recite:
Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way. “The doll was destroyed. But out of that, a new holiday was born. A Festivus for the rest of us.
Before eating dinner, Frank proudly announces what is about to go down.
The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances. I got a lot of problems with you people, now you’re gonna hear about it.”
In regards to decorating the Festivus pole…
I find the tinsel distracting.
The one and only Kramer announces, It’s a Festivus miracle.
Star Wars Festivus Memes
Because if there are memes involved, why not make a Star Wars version. (See our favorite Star Wars memes.)
Star Wars Festivus – Luke, stop your sobbing and fight your father!
From festivusweb.com – Darth Vader Festivus – It’s Festivus on the Death Star, but don’t air your grievances with Lord Vader. He will find your lack of faith disturbing.
And yes, I know this isn’t Star Wars – but nothing makes a Star Wars fan more mad than mistaking Star Trek with Star Wars.
